- }Doom for the Amiga? Mike Richmond investigates
-
- @4Veteran programmer, Steven Limpman (he was the man behind the 8 bit smash
- hits 3D Warzone and Leapin' Lenny) recently unveleiled his latest project,
- `Operation Climacteric', a texture mapped 3D game in the Doom mould. I have
- personally played a demo of this game, and I am telling you, it is going to
- be MASSIVE - remember where you heard it first!
-
- Running at a comfortable 25fps in a 16 colour quarter screen display, `OC'
- is perhaps the most impressive piece of Software ever to hit the Amiga, and
- the AMAZING news is, it was partially written in AMOS PROFESSIONAL!
-
- Steve told AZ, `I have been an Amos user since the first version of Amos
- Classic. Although it is not the quickest language, it is capable of some
- truly stunning results when in the right hands,'
-
- Indeed, Steve seems to have the right hands, because his special extension,
- `Warp Speed' looks set to revolutionise the Amiga world. It enables Amos
- to run at near Assembler speeds, but also requires a good knowledge of
- Assembler itself. It will also need a 68020 based Amiga at least. `OC' is
- going to be AGA only for the simple reason that it will not run fast enough
- on OCS and ECS Amigas.
-
-
-
-
-
-
- `The problem with the A500', says Steve, `is that the screen handling
- routines in the OS are simply too slow. Commodore rewrote much of the OS
- for Workbench 3, and in some cases the routines are up to 500% faster'
-
- Look out for `Operation Climacteric' some time in 1995, probably around
- Christmas. The Blitz beating `Warp Speed' extension is due out about now,
- Steve and his team are in the process of adding the finishing touches to
- make it more user friendly.
